RECORDS by Joanne Boyle

"RECORDS"
by Joanne Boyle

I keep playing all those memories,
the ones from Yesteryear.
Where we would bake together,
and you'd put flour in my hair.
The records keep on spinning,
some times the needle sticks.
I see that as a sign, or is
my mind just playing tricks.
I miss your smile that danced,
as it moved from ear to ear.
The records are now dripping wet,
from every memories tear.
I pick the records up,
So much I want to see again.
but I can't bring myself to stop,
the one that is still playing.
I save our favourite memory.
Its the last one I will play.
It's where we meet again,
on a sunny day.

FIND ME, SEE ME, HEAR ME, FEEL ME by Becky Hemsley 2023

"FIND ME, SEE ME, HEAR ME, FEEL ME"
by Becky Hemsley 2023

Find me in the morning
And in the afternoon
Find me in the evening
Find me underneath the moon
See me in the sunrise
And when daylight turns to dark
See me in the twilight
See me underneath the stars
Hear me in the chorus
That is sung each day at dawn
Hear me in the wind and
Hear me underneath the storm
Feel me when you’re all alone
Or in a busy crowd
Feel me in the rainfall
Feel me underneath the clouds
Yes, you can always see me
Though I’ll look a little different
And you can always hear me
If you stop a while and listen
So close your eyes in moments
When you long to feel me near
Then place your hand upon your heart
And you will find me here

FRIENDSHIP by Becky Hemsley

"FRIENDSHIP"
by Becky Hemsley 2023

Friendship is the type of love that chooses you.
It is a love that chooses you
when there is nothing to make it stay.
A love that says
"I have seen you at your lowest,
I have seen you at your highest
and I will persevere.
Not because I feel obligated to or because we signed a contract
but simply because you are you. Because you matter to me."
Friendship is the kind of love that doesn't need a lot of grand gestures
but it's the kind that chooses to make small gestures that mean a lot.
It drives out of its way to drop off treats at your door when you're not feeling well.
It sends surprise notes in the mail to say "I'm thinking of you."
It sends messages without needing a reply when you're going through a tough time. Because it knows that you might not have the energy to respond.
But it wants you to know that it's here.
Yes, friendship is the kind of love that chooses to exist.
The kind of love that chooses you for no other reason than the fact that
you are you.
And that's why
it is so incredibly special.

THIS STRANGE WOMAN IN THE MIRROR

"THIS STRANGE WOMAN IN THE MIRROR"
(author unknown)

There’s a woman in my mirror,
And she looks a lot like me.
Though there’s lines around her eyes,
And her hair is wild and free.
She is plumper than myself,
And she is definitely grey.
Did I miss the day this happened
Has she always been this way?
And this woman in the mirror,
Has an air of something calm.
Like a tide that’s going out,
And a beach that’s soft and warm.
She has seen the world in colour,
She has learned to know the truth.
There’s a wisdom in her wrinkles,
There’s a knowledge brought from youth.
And she seems to move more freely,
As though released from earthly binds.
Is she made of something lighter?
Perhaps the weight she left behind.
Like the press of expectation,
And the need to yield and bend.
I like this woman in the mirror,
She’s fast becoming my best friend.

IF YOU ENCOUNTER AN OBSTICLE by Tahlia Hunter

"IF YOU ENCOUNTER AN OBSTICLE"
by Tahlia Hunter

"And if on the path,
you encounter an obstacle
and feel discouraged,
you do not say
"This is it, the journey is over,
it is not possible
for me to go any further."
Instead, you keep your eyes fixed on
the destination,
and stare the obstacle directly in the face
and ask it
"What are you here
to show me or to teach me?"
and then thank it for its lessons and wisdom,
for in the obstacle
lies the way forward.
For an obstacle
is not an ending:
it merely indicates that
what you are trying to accomplish
will not come about
in the exact timing,
in the exact place,
or in the exact way
that you previously envisioned,
and so it may be treated
not as a hindrance,
but an inevitable part of your path
that you were destined to navigate
and overcome.
And so if you encounter an obstacle,
do not despair,
for the dream is not lost:
it is never lost,
so long as you are living,
for there is always a way forward
and you are merely being redirected.
Remember that every hero
of their own story
must face obstacles and challenges,
for this is how
they find their inner strength,
and though the path may be difficult
you are destined to reach the end."

YOU ARE NOT

"YOU ARE NOT"
(author unknown)

You are not your age,
Nor the size of clothes you wear,
You are not a weight,
Or the colour of your hair.
You are not your name,
Or the dimples in your cheeks,
You are all the books you read,
And all the words you speak,
You are your croaky morning voice,
And the smiles you try to hide,
You’re the sweetness in your laughter,
And every tear you’ve cried,
You’re the songs you sing so loudly,
When you know you’re all alone,
You’re the places that you’ve been to,
And the one that you call home,
You’re the things that you believe in,
And the people that you love,
You’re the photos in your bedroom,
And the future you dream of,
You’re made of so much beauty,
But it seems that you forgot,
When you decided that you were defined,
By all the things you’re not

GIVE IT SPACE TO BLOSSOM by Tahlia Hunter

"GIVE IT SPACE TO BLOSSOM"
by Tahlia Hunter

"When you plant a seed in the ground,
you trust that it will grow.
You do not go digging it up
over and over again,
or spend your days
watching it constantly and obsessively,
wondering whether or not it will eventually sprout.
Instead, you take care of it,
but give it space to blossom
in its own time
and at its own pace.
In the same way,
trust that when you are on the path
of being committed to healing and self-growth
you too will fully blossom
when the time is right
through giving yourself enough space, love and patience to grow into your full potential."

THE POWER OF ONE by Becky Hemsley 2022

"THE POWER OF ONE"
by Becky Hemsley 2022

One leaf can disrupt a whole army of ants
And can leave them all scared and confused
And it takes just one word, even one from a stranger
To render our self-esteem bruised
It takes just one flick of a switch in a light room
To promptly turn everything black
And it only takes one hand to push us too far
Just one straw to break our camel’s back
It takes just a moment when all is aligned
For the sunshine to blot out the moon
And it takes just one foot to kick us whilst we’re down
Just one sprinkle of salt in the wound
And yet when we think of ourselves as the one
Then we think we’ve no power at all
That we won’t make a difference when this world’s so big
And we feel so incredibly small
But it takes just one leaf to announce spring is coming
One seed for a flower to grow
And it takes just one hand to stop someone from falling
Which might mean far more than you know
It takes just a word to make somebody’s day
Just one switch to turn dark into light
And it takes just one foot to stand up for someone,
Just one sunrise to soften the night
So harness the power of one for yourself
It’s a power you’ve held all along
Yes, I know that you think you can’t change the whole world
But you can change the world for someone

THE SCIENTIST'S WIFE by Chima_Dickson Official

"THE SCIENTIST'S WIFE"
A Short Moral Story by Chima_Dickson Official

A scientist and a lawyer lived next to each other. One day, the lawyer said to his wife, Lucy.
"Look how hardworking Kate, the scientist's wife is. You don't work as much as she does. She wakes up as early as 4:30 a.m. every morning. She prepares meals for her husband before he leaves for work. She irons his clothes. She does the dishes after each meal. She attends to all the washing and cleaning. She removes her husband's shoes when he enters the home. She still waters the plants. She can work for up to 15 hours a day. But you can't even spend 5 hours working"
Lucy spoke very gently.
"I may not be of the same standard as Kate... but you do know that I'm doing my best everyday to be a good wife to you"
The lawyer snapped.
"Well, your best isn't good enough! I deserve better than a wife who does very little. You are supposed to be as hardworking as the scientist's wife. You should extend your working hours in a day"
From that point on, the lawyer set rules for his wife. He made Lucy wake up very early in the morning to begin the household chores. He made her scrub all sinks and drains, take out the trash, do the grocery shopping, water the plants, weed the garden and more. She worked all day and had very little time to rest. Somewhere along the line, she became utterly worn out.
One evening, the lawyer returned home from work and found Lucy lying lifeless on the ground. He rushed her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead by the doctor. She died from a heart attack caused by chronic stress.
The lawyer was overwhelmed with grief and guilt. He couldn't deal with the pain he felt in his heart. Then, he went to his neighbour, the scientist. He said to him.
"My wife died because I made her do all the household chores all by herself. I compared her to your wife and wanted her to be as hardworking as she is. But tell me, how does your wife do all that and never suffers a breakdown?"
The scientist paused for a moment. What he said next was a total surprise.
"I don't have a wife. The lady who lives with me is a human-like robot called Kate. I created her to do all the household chores such as cleaning, cooking, ironing, etc. How could you have compared your wife to a robot? Lucy was a human with blood in her veins but Kate is a machine that works with a battery. Do you realize what you have done?"
The lawyer stood frozen in shock and disbelief. Then, the scientist continued.
"You had a good wife who was caring and compassionate. A wife who loved and respected you. Did you even know how lucky you were to have her as a wife? But you killed her due to your dissatisfaction and baseless comparison. Now you've lost her forever. What a shame!"
Many of us have the habit of comparing our life to others. We are fascinated and intrigued by the things others have. We lose value for what we own since what others have might look better, newer or prettier in some way. We often think that our body isn't good enough, our house isn't big enough, we aren't talented enough, our family don't do their best enough. But one thing we fail to realize is that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Comparison can kill a man very easily. It leaves us with negative feelings of envy, low self-esteem, low self-confidence and isolation. Know in your head and heart that you are different from others and not just only in appearance but also everything. Be happy with yourself and find satisfaction in your work. Stop comparing your life to others and be who you are.
I let my stories teach the life lessons.
