SPRING EQUINOX IS HERE by Brigit Anna McNeill

"SPRING EQUINOX IS HERE"
by Brigit Anna McNeill

Spring equinox is here, a point of balance where we stand with one foot in the darkness of soil and inner worlds and another in the gold and green of leaves, buttery petals and blossom.
This can be a time where new life above the earth brings hope to the heart and can reinforce our own wants and needs to grow and bloom.
Reminding us of long held dreams that long to be made into plans.
Honour your seeds, follow natures guidance and eat dandelion leaves and flowers to support you to shift stagnancy and find something wilder and more alive within. Drink cleavers and get things flowing, eat and drink nettles and let them strengthen your bones, your courage and your energy. Let the wild, remind you of your wild.
Step towards the dance of spring and listen well to what wants to grow within you, to what wants to blossom and root into your days.
Speak to the trees, the new shoots and the returning birds singing growth into the air, speak to the soil, speak to your more than human kin, as they are the ones who remember how to grow, alchemise, compost and bloom, let them know what wants to be grown in the garden of your life and how you are going to tend to it. You never know, they may give you some wisdom when you listen and see how they live and thrive.

TELL ME TOMORROW by Becky Hemsley

"TELL ME TOMORROW"
by Becky Hemsley

Don’t wait til I’m gone
And then stand up to speak
About all the things
That you loved about me
Don’t sing all my praises
Through all of your tears
When I am no longer
Beside you to hear
Don’t leave all that love
Like a secret unsaid
But tell me tomorrow
Or right now instead
And I’ll tell you too
Of the things I admire
About who you are
And how much you inspire
I’ll speak from my heart
Whilst you’re still here to know
“You are” not “you were”
Or “it used to be so”
I’ll speak of your light
Whilst you’ll still hear the words
And not leave that love
In the darkness, unheard
So tell me tomorrow
Or right now - don’t wait
Because we don’t know
When it might be too late
Because we don’t know
When our time might be up
And we need to hear - while we are here -
That we’re loved

BROKEN AND BRUISED by Becky Hemsley

"BROKEN AND BRUISED"
by Becky Hemsley

If a tree falls in the forest
And nobody hears it fall
They say that we could question
If it really fell at all
Yet sometimes we don’t see the sun
Or feel it on our skin
But we know that it’s still shining
And don’t question it exists
If we see a tree in winter
We could think it’s always bare
But we never doubt that one day
Brand new leaves will linger there
And when we see a fire
We don’t tell it to be cold
And it can’t stop itself burning
Just ‘cause that’s what it’s been told
Yet sometimes people tell us
Of the way we make them feel
And it niggles at our conscience
So we tell them it’s not real
“You’re just over-reacting
There’s no need to cry,” we’ll say
“You’re just so over-sensitive
It wasn’t meant that way”
But though our egos may be bruised
By all the things they’ve said
We can’t say how they’re feeling
‘Cause we’re not inside their head
See, if we’re not in the forest
Then it’s not our place to tell
The tree that’s lying broken
That it never actually fell

Mother's and Daughters by Joanne Boyle

"Mother's and Daughters" by Joanne Boyle
I counted your fingers
and then your toes,
as I bent down and kissed
your cute button nose.
A mother's promise was made,
as I held you tight,
that as long as I breathed,
you'd be alright.
I'd accept your decisions
whilst being your guide.
I'd be the ears,
when you were hurting inside.
I'd be your voice
when you could not speak.
I'd be your strength,
when you were weak.
A Mother and her Daughter.
An unbreakable bond.
A hidden magic,
like a magicians wand.
Brought together by blood.
Joined at the heart.
A Mother and her Daughter,
friends from the start.

FAIRYTALE by Becky Hemsley

"FAIRYTALE"
by Becky Hemsley

This is for the princess
Who is trapped up in the tower
You think you have no cards to play
No leverage or power
Because you’ve read the books that start
With ‘once upon a time’
And so you’re waiting
‘Til a handsome prince comes riding by
You’re hoping that your beauty
Is enough to see you through
That he will see a pretty face
And fall in love with you
Well, let me tell a secret
You see, I once thought like this
I thought that thin or pretty
Would deliver true love’s kiss
So I craved a certain number
In the clothes that I would wear
I modified my make-up
And the way I wore my hair
But it’s not quite as simple
As they make out in the books
True love is not determined
By our bodies or our looks
You see, your real beauty’s
Not wrapped up in what you weigh
Your face may bring you suitors
But it will not make them stay
What will is all your courage
And the way your heart is kind
Your spirit, your adventure
And the way you speak your mind
But none of that will matter
Until you can see your worth
The truest love you’ll ever know
Is loving yourself first
So buy your own glass slippers
And take yourself to the ball
Then sing and dance as if
Nobody else is there at all
Let others crave the beauty
That is wrapped within your soul
You’re waiting to be rescued
Just ‘cause that’s what you’ve been told
But with your heart and spirit
You don’t need anyone else
So let your hair down princess
And go and save yourself

STICKS AND STONES by Becky Hemsley

"STICKS AND STONES"
by Becky Hemsley
Sticks and stones may break my bones

But words will cut me deep
They’ll keep on hurting long after
The breaks and bruises heal
Because the sticks will meet my skin,
The stones may hit my bones
But words will carve their way beneath
And make my soul their home
And this gives them the power
To control me and to win
‘Cause now I’ve words of worthlessness
From outside and within
See stones are thrown in anger
But our words are thrown in spite
And whilst they’re easier to pitch
They’re more difficult to fight
Because we cannot run away,
We cannot just unhear them,
Because their echoes resonate
Long after we are near them
And if we are not careful
Then those words become our voice
One that learns to shout the loudest
And to make the biggest noise
So do not be the reason
Someone hates their own reflection
Or thinks they are not worthy
Or deserving of affection
And when you pick your words
Weigh them awhile between your palms
Consider whether hurling them
Will heal or hurt or harm
Yes, sticks and stones may break a bone
But words can break a heart
And they can be the reason
Someone tears themselves apart
So if you wouldn’t break their bones
By throwing stones and sticks
It’s likely for the best
That some words do not leave your lips

SHE PLAYED TITH THE BUTTERFLIES by Joanne Boyle

"SHE PLAYED TITH THE BUTTERFLIES"
by Joanne Boyle

She played with the butterflies,
beside the river banks.
Her Pappa stood there watching,
his heart was full of thanks.
He thought his world was over,
when his wife had gone away,
but she left behind the greatest gift
with an important part to play.
She kept her Daddy from sinking,
into the depths of despair.
She brought magic to the moments,
as if her mum was there.
She danced around his heart beat.
She had her mother's eyes.
She asked a million questions.
Everyday was a surprise.
She brought sunshine to his days,
and laughter to his heart.
She connected heaven and earth,
so they were never apart.
