THE SUNSHINE FLOWER by Joanne Boyle

"THE SUNSHINE FLOWER"
by Joanne Boyle

The Sunshine Flower.
Speak to me sunshine.
Light up my day.
Feed me your energy,
and I'll be on my way.
Give me the hope,
for brighter things.
Give me strength
for whatever it brings.
Touch my heart,
with your sweet smell.
Share your secret,
come on, please tell.
Warm up my day,
with your sweet glow.
Tell me It's alright.
I need to know.
Thank you Sunshine.
I heard you say,
I am so loved,
so ill be on my way.

WHEN PARENTS GET OLD

"WHEN PARENTS GET OLD" (author unknown"
Let them grow old with the same love that they let you grow
Let them speak and tell repeated stories with the same patience and interest that they heard yours as a child
Let them overcome, like so many times when they let you win
Let them enjoy their friends just as they let you

Let them enjoy the talks with their grandchildren, because they see you in them
Let them enjoy living among the objects that have accompanied them for a long time, because they suffer when they feel that you tear pieces of this life away ...
Let them be wrong, like so many times you have been wrong and they didn’t embarrass you by correcting you

LET THEM LIVE and try to make them happy the last stretch of the path they have left to go; give them your hand, just like they gave you their hand when you started your path!

GLASS BALLOON by Becky Hemsley

"GLASS BALLOON"
by Becky Hemsley

I’ve been carrying this glass balloon around with me for a while now.
So fragile and yet so heavy.
I’m terrified to let it go. In case it breaks, smashes.
And I have nothing left.
I can’t deflate it.
But it’s weighing me down
and the longer I hold it,
the sooner I feel like I’ll buckle under the weight of it.
And how do I explain to others that I am carrying something so delicate yet so substantial? How do I ask them to help me carry this thing that they cannot see?
Perhaps I’m not supposed to let it go.
Perhaps I’m supposed to tie it to my heart and carry it around forever. And it will remain as heavy and as fragile as it has always been, but I will get used to carrying it.
I will learn how to hold it on the difficult days, rather than letting it hold me.
I will learn how to let it lift me up rather than letting it weigh me down.
I will learn how to explain it to others rather than shouldering the weight in silence.
And as time goes on, maybe…
Just maybe…
I will figure out
how to let it fly.

Remember that we can grieve so many things. No matter what you grieve, your glass balloon is valid.

QUIETLY by Becky Hemsley

"QUIETLY"
by Becky Hemsley 2024

I missed you quietly today. So quietly that no one noticed.
I missed you as I climbed out of bed and as I brushed my teeth; when I waited at the lights on the drive into work and as I heard the rain outside my window.
I missed you as I ordered lunch and as I kicked off my shoes when I got home; as I switched off the lights and climbed into bed for the night.
I missed you without tears or noise or fanfare.
But oh how I felt it.
I felt it in the morning, at lunchtime, in the evening and at night. I felt it as I woke, as I waited, as I worked. I felt it at home, on the road, in the light, in the dark, in the rain.
I felt it in every one of those moments, each one sitting heavier and heavier as the weight of me missing you kept growing and growing.
Yes, I missed you so quietly today.
But I felt it so loudly.

FLAME by Becky Hemsley

"FLAME"
by Becky Hemsley

Striking a match too hard won’t light it.
In fact, it might break it.
And then there will be no light.
Piling too much on a fire won’t keep it lit.
In fact, it might suffocate it.
And then there will be no fire.
Burning a candle constantly won’t keep it burning.
In fact, it will exhaust it.
And then there will be no flame.
Sometimes gently is better.
Sometimes little by little is needed.
Sometimes rest is necessary.
Sometimes gentleness gives us light
and space to breathe.
Sometimes gentleness allows us to come back to life again when we weren’t even sure if we still had that fire in us.
So don’t be too hard on yourself.
Don’t pile on the pressure.
Don’t burn yourself out.
Because your flame can’t stay alive like that.

HEAVEN'S PLAYGROUND by Joanne Boyle

"HEAVEN'S PLAYGROUND"
by Joanne Boyle

Here we swing on stars,
and angels are our friends.
The sky becomes our forest
where adventures never end.
Robins bring you messages,
from us to down below.
Clouds turn into aeroplanes,
and take us where we want to go.
We love to play hide and seek,
with the moon and sun.
Little birds are tweeting
and joining in the fun.
Orbs are all around us,
whispering in our ears,
reminding us we are loved,
whilst you are shedding tears.
We have real Christmas trees,
the baubles are lost balls.
The Angel on the top
answers all your calls.
All the animals play together.
There are no cat and mouse.
The sky is heavens playground
and heaven is our house.

DEDICATED TO A WOMAN OF COURAGE BARBARA HARMER

"DEDICATED TO A WOMAN OF COURAGE BARBARA HARMER"
compiled by Su DeNyme & John A Elliott
(original author unknown)

Barbara Harmer left school at the age of 15 without any qualification to work as a hairdresser.

After five years of doing people's hair, she applied to become a trainee air traffic controller at London Gatwick Airport.
While working at Gatwick, she also decided to study for her A levels with the aim of studying law.
For this reason , her A levels subjects were Geography, English Law, Constitutional Law.
But she later changed her mind , and started taking flying lessons after obtaining a £10,000 bank loan.
After obtaining her private pilot licence, she embarked on a 2 year distance learning course for her commercial pilot licence which she secured in 1982.
Even after obtaining it , her tenacity to succeed was put to a stern test once again, when she was rejected by potential employers. Her 100 applications for a pilot job were all rejected.
In 1984, after two years of tarmacking, she got her first pilot job in a small commuter airline, and within that same year lady luck came calling when she joined British Caledonian Airlines.
Things became even more better for her three years later in 1987, when British Caledonian Airlines merged with British Airways.
She kept on soaring and after four years flying British Airways' DC-10 plane , she was selected to train as Concorde pilot, becoming the first woman qualified to fly the supersonic plane.
By the time Concorde was withdrawn from service in October 2003, Harmer had served 10 years as a pilot flying regular scheduled services.
After Concorde she converted to flying Boeing 777 Jumbo jet, until 2009 when retired voluntarily to pursue other things. Her aim was to sail in her yacht across the Atlantic in 2013, something she had started preparing for.
But unknown to her, she had developed ovarian cancer which was slowly eating her life away. By the time it was diagnosed, she only had slightly more than a year live.
Captain Harmer, who never had children, died in 2011 at the age of 57 leaving behind her husband of 27 years. Her ashes were flown high and scattered over the sea near her home.
She started low in life, climbed and soared. Her legacy is an inspiration to women and to youngsters everywhere. Through her pragmatic, can-do attitude, she achieved success in a male-dominated industry.

LIVING by Becky Hemsley

"LIVING"
by Becky Hemsley

Life in its essence is breaths that we take
Our very next breath is just seconds away
And breathing ensures we survive, we exist
But being alive is a lot more than this
It's climbing a mountain then looking back down
To see where you started and where you are now
It's loving the view that you see from up there
With the earth at your feet and the wind in your hair
It’s meeting with friends to catch up over tea
And laughing until you forget how to breathe
It’s dancing all night ‘til your feet wind up sore
And singing along ‘til your throat feels raw
It’s walking the beach and it's watching the tide
It’s finding a shell to hear oceans inside
It's flying ‘til you can see clouds from above
It's counting the stars and it's falling in love
It's watching the sun rise and watching it set
It’s gathering moments you'll never forget
The moments that teeter and flutter between
A world full of wonder and one of routine
So breathe in and out - it'll keep you alive
But know that you're here to do more than survive
You’re here to let music dance on through your veins
To climb to the top of the mountain again
To see yourself fly and to feel your heart leap
The world is a show and you’ve got front row seats
So in the next seconds, when you breathe on in
Remember the wonder of life that’s within
‘Cause taking a breath keeps you living for sure
But the breath taking moments?
They’re what we live for
