THE PITY BUSH by Joanne Boyle

"THE PITY BUSH"
by Joanne Boyle

I found you lurking about today,
underneath the pity bush.
Wishing another day away
and wanting life to rush.
Your shoulders were full of leaves.
Your head bled from its thorns
I picked you up and shook you
then grabbed you by your horns.
Be thankful you got up today
when so many others had not.
Be grateful you are loved
though it seems you have forgot.
You have a job to go too
and if it's not where you want to be
Go out there and be positive.
No need to be unhappy.
You have food upon your table.
A bed for you to sleep.
I know these things don't matter
if depression comes to creep.
Self pity is just different.
We are allowed it too.
Just don't sit there for very long
and let it consume each piece of you.
