"THE BOX" by Joanne Boyle

"THE BOX"
by Joanne Boyle

She opened up the box
that she found upon her bed.
The magic then escaped
and went dancing in her head.
She saw her Mama smiling
with a tear in her eye
when she looked at the scribbles
that had made her Mama cry.
That daisy she had picked
when she was only small.
Preserved neatly in a packet,
the prettiest flower of them all.
There was a sticky lolly pop.
At this she laughed out loud,
as she went down memory lane,
that day amongst the crowd.
Her first baby shoes.
Still so pristine and so white.
She knew she was so loved
and was her mamas eternal light.
There was a drawing of a family.
Now her tears fell
She was back in infant school,
and she remembered it so well.
A penny just sat there.
She had gave her Mama it for luck.
It was worth more than a million now,
and at that her body shook.
She cried for her Mama,
but was so grateful for her years,
and for this little box of magic
of the memories they had shared.
