MARTIN'S TRAIN JOURNEY

"MARTIN'S TRAIN JOURNEY"
(author unknown)

Every month, Martin's parents embarked on a journey to visit Grandma, returning on the identical train the following day.
One day the child said to his parents:
′′I'm already grown up.
Can I go to my grandma's alone?"
After a brief discussion, his parents accepted.
They stood with him as he waited for the train to exit.
They said goodbye to their son and gave him some tips through the window.
Martin repeated to them:
′′I know. I've been told this more than a thousand times."
As the train was about to leave, his father murmured in his ear:
′′Son if you feel bad or insecure, this is for you!"
And he put something in his pocket.
Now Martin was alone,
sitting on the train as he had wanted,
without his parents for the first time.
He was admiring the landscape out the window.
Around him some unknowns pushed themselves in.
They made a lot of noise.
They got in and out of the train car.
The conductor made some comments about him being alone.
One person looked at him with eyes of sadness.
Martin was feeling more uneasy with
every minute that passed.
And now he was scared.
He felt cornered and alone.
He put his head down, and
with tears in his eyes,
He remembered his dad had
Put something in his pocket.
Trembling, he searched for what his father had given him.
Upon finding the piece of paper he read it:
′′Son, I'm in the last train car!".
That's how life is,
We must let our kids go
We must let them try new things.
But we always like to be
In the last car, watching,
in case they are afraid or in case they find obstacles and don’t know what to do.
We want to be close to them.
as long as we are still alive.

DADDY KNOWS HOW TO CATCH YOU

"DADDY KNOWS HOW TO CATCH YOU"
(author unknown)

My husband said to me this morning as he got the kids ready for a day out "They'll never remember. All this stuff we do with them, the places we take them...they won't remember much of it".
He is right. They wont. Not much of it anyway. But still it matters. Because he and I will remember.
Someday in the future,
As the door opens and our son introduces his first girlfriend or boyfriend, we will remember a time when all that mattered in his world was his mum and dad. And that how we treated him painted the canvass of how he sees this first relationship.
As our teenage daughter runs up the stairs claiming we don't understand her, we will remember that all it took when she was 5-years-old was a kiss, a cuddle and soothing words and that although she has no memory of it, she returns for those words aged 15.
We will remember as we choose the paint that will redecorate the hall, that we don't have to worry about the expensive paint that you can rub handprints from anymore. And I will yearn, I will ache, for a tiny handprint on my wall.
And as I watch my children with their children, I will remember that every trip to the park, every day we bombed them with love, every time we played hide and seek, shaped the map that they walked upon, in their quest to be a good parent themselves.
And as I walk along the beach someday in years to come, my face lined with the creases of my thoughts, my moments of panic, my moments of joy, I will feel the hot sand on the soles of my feet and remember my child walking to the sea with his dad on a day that I thought would last forever, but has now long gone.
I'll remember.
And my darling child, I will tell you what you don't remember...
Holding your 8lb body against my skin in a feeling that would defy what I ever thought possible.
Holding your hand as you took your first steps. Away from me. Towards the world.
Holding your waist as you navigated a pathway that had imaginary crocodiles trying to snap your ankles.
Holding it together when your daddy threw you up into the air, you squealing with delight, me squirming with anticipation.
Holding a book, a breast pump, a baby and a hand whilst I read you a story.
Holding back the tears when you had me filled with pride at your school play.
And you may say "I don't remember any of that".
No.
But I will.
And I watch you transition from child to teenager to adult to parent to home owner, I will know that what I remember, keeps you close to me.
And what you don't remember, made you, you.
And no matter how old you are, precious little child, should you find yourself up in the air, call us.
Daddy knows how to catch you. Remember?

BE THANKFUL

"BE THANKFUL"
(author unknown)

Be thankful to those who mistreated you, for they have shown you how not to live your life.
Be thankful to those who betrayed you. It is because of them that you have learned the power that comes from the act of forgiveness.
Be thankful to those who refused to help you in times of need. It is because of them you have learned how to do it all by yourself.
Be thankful for the difficult times, for they have shown you how strong you can be.
Be thankful for those who labelled, judged and criticized you harshly. It is because of them you have learned that your value and self-worth come from yourself and not from others.
Be thankful to those who gave you no love. It is because of them that you have learned to look for love and approval within yourself.
Be thankful for the many limits that were imposed on you. It is because of them you have learned to break free from all the past conditioning and create your own reality and your own rules.
Be thankful for your past mistakes and failures. It is because of them that you have learned how not to do things. It is because of them that you have learned what works and what doesn’t.
Be thankful for both the good and bad experiences life has sent your way. It is because of these experiences that you have learned some of life’s most valuable lessons.

I SEE YOU by Genevieve V Georget

"I SEE YOU"
by
Genevieve V Georget

To the sensitive ones,
I see you.
I see you with your shoulders hunched forward and your eyes filled with doubt.
I see you as your mind starts to race and your heart starts to hurt.
I see you standing in front of someone else; a loved one, a colleague, a friend…while they unleash the words that pierce right through you…
“You’re just a little too sensitive.”
I see you slowly take a step back and quietly shut yourself down.
I see you as the words linger in the air and they begin to soak through your skin.
And I see you as it starts to happen.
As you start to let the question spread through your bones…
“What if they're right?”
I’m here to tell you that they are right.
You are too sensitive.
I am too sensitive.
We are too sensitive.
We’re too sensitive for a world that doesn’t know how to handle vulnerability.
We’re too sensitive for people who don’t want to have uncomfortable conversations.
We’re too sensitive for a culture that dictates strength by the number of tears you refuse to shed.
But we’re not too sensitive for each other.
And furthermore, our sensitivity is not a liability.
Because, in a world that is becoming more hardened by the minute, that sensitivity is a gift.
In a society that is building brick walls around their hearts, that sensitivity tears them down.
In a life that is being driven by success, that sensitivity takes the wheel with love.
Please believe me when I say I make this next statement for myself just as much as anyone else who might need to hear it...
It’s okay to be emotional.
It’s okay to experience your feelings.
It’s okay to show up as your whole self, regardless of how messy that might be.
And if people try to tell you otherwise, then those aren’t your people.
That’s okay too.
Because this life is filled with people who feel the world in a very deep way.
It’s filled with people who hand over vulnerability in the name of connection.
It’s filled with people willing to sit through the discomfort of the human experience so others don’t have to.
And if you’re out there right now, feeling rejected or isolated or misunderstood…I’m here to tell you one last thing.
I see you and I hope you never change.

AS MARY WEPT by Joanne Boyle

"AS MARY WEPT"
by Joanne Boyle

As Mary watched
over yonder's way
with faith in her heart
she knew today,
her son would rest
but wasn't lost
though he paid a price
for eternal cost.
She shed a tear
but was not alone,
as her son
laid on a stone.
She knew the Father
had to make,
the sacrifice
for all our sakes.
As Mary wept
with her head held high
she heard a message
from the sky.
"Do not weep, for
when tomorrow is here
the resurrection of life
shall then be clear."
So, patiently, she sat
and as everyone mourned,
Mary knew in her heart
that the crown that was thorned,
would now be replaced
with heavens glow
and would be a reminder,
for all to know.

SABOTAGE by Becky Hemsley

"SABOTAGE"
by Becky Hemsley

Let me introduce you
To a woman that I know
She hears my every thought
And follows everywhere I go
She wakes me up abruptly sometimes
When I’m fast asleep
And keeps me up for hours
Whilst she taunts and laughs at me
She takes joy in convincing me
That I am hard to love
That if I’m less than perfect
Then I’ll never be enough
She shakes the ground I stand on
And talks down what I achieve
She highlights all my flaws to me
And tells me I’m naïve
She battles with my confidence
And wrestles with my pride
She’s like a double agent
But she’s never on my side
And she knows just how to sabotage
By sowing seeds of doubt
And arguing with logic
In a voice that likes to shout
And you’d think I wouldn’t listen
That I’d turn and walk away
But it’s so hard to ignore her
When she knows just what to say
In ways that make me question
Things I’ve thought and done and said
You see, she is an imposter
And she lives inside my head
